Waking up 5 hours before sunrise in winter is typically a difficult ordeal, but I was excited this morning to drive 3 hours to a frosty location I had never been. Along icefields parkway in Alberta, Canada, we got a beautiful display of light at this location.
Flanking each side of the river was thick ice topped with hoar frost the size of a large fist leading all the way towards the mountain – a rare combination of weather events create these formations that appear as incredibly intricate microscopic fractals at a close viewing distance with each one being as unique as a snowflake.
